Come the week of January 29- February 1, the massive Mecum Motorcycle Auction returns to the South Point Hotel Casino and Spa in Las Vegas. One of the most widely anticipated events on the annual classic motorcycle enthusiasts’ calendar, the event draws thousands of spectators and an estimated 1,700 rare and antique motorcycles to the auction site. For the first time, twenty lucky visitors to the event will be treated to a guided VIP tour to the auction including the staging area, auction stage, and auction operations with Mike Seate. “Cafe Racer magazine has been covering the Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle auction for years and it’s always satisfying to peruse the long rows of bikes assembled for sale and pick our favorites among the staff. It’s a thrill to share historical insights with our readers about these rare machines, many of which we’ve only seen in books or on TV,” says Seate who will be auctioning off a customized cafe racer from the CRM garage over the four-day event.

Ten VIP passes will be awarded to Cafe Racer magazine readers who will be contacted via email for a tour on Thursday, January 30, Thursday, January 31 and ten for Saturday, February 1. The tours will take place at 9 am and start from the lobby atop the main escalators. Once the tours have concluded the pass holders can watch the auction live from the bustling main floor.

If there’s a custom cafe racer or treasured classic machine stored away in your barn or garage that you’ve long considered selling, the Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle auction is the place to sell as potential buyers from around the world follow the proceedings live with streamed day-by-day coverage.

“Even if you turn up at the auction not intending to bring home a new piece of two-wheeled history, it’ a fun time just watching the bidding escalate,” Seate said. “It’s amazing how many ideas for designing custom bikes we’ve culled just from witnessing the vast collection of motorcycles that roll onto the stage during the week. There really is something for everybody.”

In previous years, the pre-auction staging area has been an exciting, educational area to visit and has contained some ultra-rare machines beyond anything on display in museums. These included a cut-away BSA Gold Star DB34 from the 1956 Earl’s Court Motorcycle Show in England. The Gold Star’s engine cases had been cut away by factory technicians to reveal the still-functioning internals that were kept in motion by an electric motor.

Each year, attendees can expect to find historically significant competition machines readied for sale, some of whom won national and International championships in years past.
